Through writing, we attempt to persuade and influence our visitors, either straight or indirectly. We work to cause them to change their minds, to accomplish one thing, or even start thinking in brand brand brand new means. Therefore, every author has to understand and also make use of concepts of rhetoric. The step that is first such knowledge is learning how to begin to see the argumentative nature of most writing.
I’ve two objectives in this chapter: to describe the word rhetoric and also to offer you some historic viewpoint on its origins and development; and also to show the significance of seeing research writing as being a rhetorical, persuasive task.
